Earthquake Relief Project- A small gesture can make a difference! We've just returned from Haiti. So many are in need and much more needs to be done.
Sante Fanm ak Lafanmi is actively seeking health professionals to volunteer in Haiti. If we all work together we can improve this situation one person or family at a time.
June 2010 Medical Trip
A MATCH MADE IN HAITI
In early March of 2010, Boston’s Community Medical Group (BCMG) was contacted by St. Boniface Hospital in Fond des Blancs, Haiti. The twenty-eight bed hospital had just accepted sixteen newly spinal cord injured patients, some with traumatic brain injuries, as a result of the earthquake that devastated Haiti on January 12, 2010. Initially treated aboard the U.S. Navy hospital ship Comfort, these patients were then transferred to St. Boniface, the only Haitian hospital able to accept them. St. Boniface has a longstanding relationship with Healing Hands for Haiti, a nonprofit organization familiar with BCMG’s decades of experience in sustaining the lives of spinal cord injury patients in the greater Boston area. Upon learning of BCMG, St. Boniface contacted us for assistance. Sherline Chery, nurse practitioner with Boston's Community Medical Group and president of SANTE FANM AK LAFANMI, will be joining this effort to contribute expertise in caring for spinal cord injured patients.
SANTE FANM AK LAFANMI assembled personal gift packets for the spinal cord injured patients and distributed them on the last day of the trip.
Please feel free to contact us if you would like to volunteer and get involved with upcoming events.
